Site Visits
Cancer center site visits are commonly used to immerse legislative officials in the day-to-day operations of a community-based cancer center. From the front lobby to the infusion suite, from HIT and medical records to a radiation vault, officials are able to truly experience first hand and from a clinical perspective how a fully integrated cancer care center delivers the highest standard of care to patients.
Since January 1, 2007 more than 200 site visits have taken place in over 30 states across the US Oncology network. In 2010, following the passage of national health care reform, the need for education in the legislative and regulatory environment has never been greater. With your help, officials and their staff may review advanced cancer care services provided for their constituents in almost every state in the nation.
Visit Details
Each visit is planned for a time period ranging from 45 to 60 minutes. While this is certainly not enough time to explain all that is involved in a cancer center's operations it does provide a snapshot that officials have found to be greatly valuable as it showcases both the model of care and the delivery of care in a powerful way.
Upon arrival a US Oncology representative or practice physician will facilitate a pre-planned itinerary. This includes a 30-45 tour featuring the delivery of care followed by a more formal conversation concerning the latest health care issues of importance to the practice. Talking points should be updated on a constant basis. During each tour it is beneficial to highlight diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, pharmacy services, medical recordkeeping and HIT, financial and patient assistance resources provided by the practice and common follow-up procedures.
