How to Host a Site Visit

Arranging a visit to a Network practice is a great way to introduce legislative officials to the day-to-day operations of a community-based cancer center.  From the front lobby to the infusion suite, from medical records to a radiation vault, officials are able to truly experience first-hand and from a clinical perspective how a fully-integrated cancer care center delivers the highest standard of care to patients.

Network practices have hosted hundreds of elected officials for site visits across the country. With health care continuing to be a top focus for state and federal policymakers, the need for education in the legislative and regulatory environment has never been greater. With your help, officials and their staff can see how the policy decisions they make have a direct impact on the care their constituents receive at home.

Visit Details

We typically recommend setting aside about 60 minutes for a site visit, including a 30-minute tour of the facility and 15-30 minutes left for discussion. Depending on the practices’ offerings, the tour can highlight diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, an infusion suite, pharmacy services, medical recordkeeping, research and clinical trials, financial and patient assistance resources. Showcasing a clinic’s operations firsthand is a powerful way to educate an elected official on care delivery. Following the tour, a more formal conversation can be held to discuss the practice’s pressing policy concerns.

The US Oncology Network’s government relations and public policy team can assist every step of the way, from arranging the site visit to providing updated talking points, attending in person, and helping to facilitate the discussion.
