Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada hosts Assemblywoman Tracy Brown-May, Assemblyman Duy Nguyen, Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama, and state assembly candidates Tonya Flanagan and Jovan Jackson

CCCN Site Visit

In late August, Nevada Assemblywoman Tracy Brown-May and Assemblyman Duy Nguyen visited the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN) to enhance their understanding of community cancer care. Their tour of CCCN’s advanced facility allowed them to witness the latest cancer treatments and the center’s compassionate approach to patient care. The visit emphasized the critical role local cancer centers play in providing accessible care, reducing travel burdens, and offering essential support services such as counseling and nutritional guidance. Assemblywoman Brown-May and Assemblyman Nguyen also discussed key healthcare issues, including early detection, genetic counseling, and Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) transparency.

Assemblywoman Brown-May expressed admiration for CCCN’s dedication to patient care, while Assemblyman Nguyen, who serves on the Assembly Health and Human Services Committee, highlighted the importance of legislative action to address cancer care challenges. Nguyen also noted his experience as a translator for the Asian and Pacific Islander community, underscoring the importance of effective doctor-patient communication. Their visit underscored the essential partnership between healthcare providers and legislators, informing their efforts to enhance cancer care for all Nevadans.

Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama recently visited the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN) at their Summerlin clinic, reinforcing her long-standing support for the practice.  Kasama, a dedicated advocate for CCCN, has a deeply personal connection to the center. Her husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and given a bleak prognosis, with doctors suggesting he might not survive past Labor Day. However, thanks to the exceptional care provided by the Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Las Vegas, he is now cancer-free. The visit not only highlighted Kasama’s appreciation for the center’s life-saving work but also solidified a robust partnership as they approach the 2025 legislative session in Nevada. Key issues on the agenda include promoting PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager) transparency, improving access to lung care screening, and expanding genetic counseling services. Assemblywoman Kasama’s firsthand experience and advocacy are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing these critical healthcare initiatives.

In a recent visit to the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada’s (CCCN) Northwest cancer center, Nevada state assembly candidates Tonya Flanagan and Jovan Jackson gained valuable insights into the critical role community oncology practices play in cancer care. Both candidates, who are cancer survivors themselves, were deeply engaged throughout the tour, which was designed to shed light on the unique benefits and cost differences of receiving care in an independent clinic versus a hospital setting. The tour, which included visits to the pharmacy and chemo centers, provided Flanagan and Jackson with a comprehensive understanding of the full spectrum of services offered by CCCN.

They met with dedicated healthcare professionals who emphasized the importance of accessibility and affordability in cancer treatment. The candidates learned that independent community oncology practices often provide more cost-effective care compared to hospitals, making a significant difference for patients navigating the financial challenges of cancer treatment. Tonya Flanagan, who is a former President of the Board of Directors for Susan G. Komen, Nevada, brought her extensive experience and passion for cancer advocacy to the visit. Her personal journey as a cancer survivor further enriched her perspective on the importance of community-based cancer care. Jovan Jackson, also a cancer survivor, shared his unique insights and echoed the sentiment that independent clinics play a pivotal role in providing patient-centered care. As they continue their campaigns, Flanagan and Jackson’s visit to CCCN’s Northwest cancer center will undoubtedly influence their healthcare policy priorities, ensuring that the needs of cancer patients remain at the forefront of their future legislative efforts.
