SCRI Oncology Partners Holds First Advocacy Day at the Tennessee State Capitol
On February 11, SCRI Oncology Partners held its Day at the Capitol in Nashville, Tennessee during the General Assembly’s annual legislative session. Throughout the day, physicians and staff met with members of the Tennessee House and Senate, as well as other stakeholders like The Tennessee Medical Association (TMA) and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACSCAN).
The team engaged in productive conversations to educate lawmakers on the critical role community oncology plays in delivering high-quality cancer care to Tennesseans. In addition, they discussed their unique connection with Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), and the value this brings to the patients they serve and the State of Tennessee. The practice highlighted several key pieces of legislation that have been proposed this session including, expanding coverage for biomarker testing, prior authorization reforms, the use of artificial intelligence in insurance denials, and automatic downcoding parameters.
By engaging with lawmakers and advocating on the state level, SCRI Oncology Partners are setting an example in Tennessee on how to be thought leaders and experts in the community oncology and clinical research space. Thank you to Dr. David Spigel, Dr. Melissa Johnson, Dr. Meredeth McKean, Sara Alter, and Nicole Rohling who carved time out of their day to make the Day at the Tennessee Capitol a success!
